Florine
Crews is a mother of two daughters, Tracy, and Trent; grandmother of
three, Christian, Andrew, and Bethany; and was kindergarten teacher
of many. Florine can’t remember not being able to read. That love of
reading led to her love of writing. She always loved attending
school and learning. Because of that love, she stressed the
importance of reading and writing in her classroom, and loved to
help her students develop those skills. As proof, one third of all
of her students, for 15 years, left kindergarten reading and writing
on a second or third grade level. To God be the glory!
“Back in the day” composition writing was a regular part of the
school curriculum, so there was lots of practice. At Vaux Junior
High, Florine won 3rd prize in a school-wide essay contest. Her
title was “An Educated People Moves Freedom Forward.” She worked on
the Vauxette magazine as a reporter, and published some short
stories.
Due to certain circumstances in her life, she was unable to write,
except for an occasional jotting. However, with God’s help, her life
was turned around. She completed her education, and was blessed to
become a teacher. Poetry became a way to express herself. At her
church, she became known for writing, and was placed on the church
bulletin committee, where she was inspired by God to write one or
more poems a week.
“As I Walk With the King“, and “I‘m Still Walking”
are about love,
faith, joy, and all of the benefits of serving our true and Living
God. Several human emotions are explored, and the solutions are
always found in God’s Word.
“Hector Did It!” was actually a writing assignment for a course Florine was taking circa 1990; which she had to abandon because she
was already a full time grad student, and beginning her teaching
career. She wanted Hector to be a social rabbit, who addresses
issues in a manner in which children can relate. “Let’s Play Tag,
Hector” came a little later, as the second installment of the Hector
Rabbit Series.
Florine was also blessed to have such an artistic friend and
co-worker as Luz Falcon; whose children Rafael and Lissette she also
taught. Luz lovingly illustrated both Hector books. Christian D.
Crews, Florine's eldest grand, painstakingly colored those pictures.
They brought Hector to life.
Now retired, Florine continues to be active, with God’s help. She is
eternally grateful to the Lord, and shares her testimonies of His
Grace and Mercy with others, as the Spirit leads her. She is
currently working on a set of phonics readers, designed to enhance
young children’s reading skills. She also hopes to complete the
Hector series, if it is God’s will.
Florine’s prayer is that God will continue to use her as a vessel.
She is matriculating to become a a candidate for a GOD degree,
majoring in JESUS! The course is rigorous at times, due to the fiery
trials which are to make her strong; but, through it all, He
increases her faith daily.
God is so worthy to be praised. Some of His actions on her behalf
have been drop-jaw awesome! These things have removed any and all
doubt that the God we serve “is able to do exceeding abundantly
above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh
in us” (Ephesians 3:20).
Florine Crews does not want her walk to be in vain.
Come, let us walk together with The King. |
